Bassae - (Untitled) 12" (Few Crackles, 2021)
"Totally out, techno-not-techno, pop music experiments from Bassæ on the sainted Few Crackles label. We are off-off-dance-floor here, minimal loops scroll backwards recalling the oddest ends of the Perlon catalogue, and glassy pads float by. What really makes this, though, is the vocals - whispering stream of consciousness chatter and softly cooing art-song reminiscent of the most audible bits of Robert Ashley’s ‘Automatic Writing’ or the gorgeous non-language sung and spoken by Cos’s Pascale Son. This has the makings of a proper cult record. It’s music that sounds just familiar enough but with a wonderful disorientating quality that just might be inventing whole genres as it goes along." - All Night Flight
