Ultra Pulverize - Gorillas In The Fist CD / DVD (self-released, 2005)
Singularly twisted debut from one of Louisville's most unique (and arguably best) live bands of the 2000s. Foaming at the mouth like some sort of meth-crazed redneck Beastie Boys meets mid-career Kraftwerk in an after-school gang program, Ultra Pulverize pull off the nearly impossible feat of kicking fucking ass in an actually-good musical way while somehow managing to be laugh-out-loud funny (even if you're never fully in on the joke) -- a rare combination of creative forces with unavoidably enjoyable results.
This was one of those bands that everyone around here adored during their all-too-short (though honestly somewhat lengthy) tenure, yet few people outside of town ever had the pleasure of experiencing beyond maybe a random ill-fated tour or two. Even less likely, one may remember U.P. from their stand-out performance on the similarly ill-fated Louisville installment of Brendan Canty's 'Burn To Shine' series, rivaling barely-local Magik Markers' polarizing 15-20 minute "song" of merciless feedback blooze for most memorable highlight. Lucky for us, they left a few earthly releases to remember them by before passing on to the next planet a decade later.
