V/A - Bold Beginnings: An Incomplete Collection of Louisville Punk 1978-83" CD (Noise Pollution, 2007)
ESSENTIAL compilation (thanks to the fine folks at Noise Pollution) w/ in-depth liner notes provided by NYC-via-KY guitar hero Tara Key (Babylon Dance Band, Antietam) and local filmmaker/historian Jeff Jobson. This is Louisville Punk 101, ground zero, genesis, whatever you want to call it.
Features tracks from No Fun (pre-Circle X), The Endtables (fronted by the finest front-person our city ever offered, the late great 'Chili' Rigot), The Dickbrains (pre-Freakwater), Malignant Growth (pre-Fading Out/Kinghorse, opened for Black Flag and Saccharine Trust in '84), & many others.
Before there was Squirrel Bait, Slint, Palace, Papa M, Rodan, Crain, King Kong, et al, these were the bands on the front line of Louisville's emerging underground. Inspiring stuff. Incredible comp, front to back.
